MONTGOMERY — Jacob Richard Orlando, 84, of 55 Sherwood Drive, passed away Thursday, Mar. 8, 2007, at the Gatehouse Hospice Center, Williamsport.He was a native of Lynn, Massachuttes.
Jacob was an Army veteran of World War II, and participated in the central European campaign.
He was an over-the-road truck driver in New England for over 35 years, where he was a member of the Teamster Union. His C.B. handle was "Cheese N Crackers." Following his retirement in 1976, he relocated to the area.
He attended Sonshine Christian Church, Williamsport.
He was a 36 year member of the United Commercial Travelers of America, an organization devoted to the betterment of special needs people. He was named Counselor of the Year in 1995. He was a member of Central PA Chapter National Historical Railroad Society, the VFW, Turbotville, American Legion, Watsontown, and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Milton.
He enjoyed reading, playing cards, and the company of his companion, Louise Yerger of Linden.
He is survived by a step-son, Leroy and his wife Kathy Mitch of Watsontown; one step-granddaughter, Melissa Mitch; one sister and brother.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda "Betty" Phillips Mitch; one brother and sister.
Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Cronrath Funeral Home, Inc., 308 Main Street, Watsontown, where the funeral will be conducted at 3, with the Rev. Ronald Savits, of Newberry United Church of Christ officiating.
Internment with full military honors will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Watsontown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jacob's memory may be made to the S.P.C.A., 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
